Teenagers (14+) and Adults (18+) who are looking for small supportive classes in introductory horse and related farm chores.
The program focuses on prevocational job readiness skills as participants learn vocational skills of routine horse and goat animal care, basic carpentry, and gardening. Job readiness skills such as social and language skills to best communicate with supervisors and co-workers, team work, following instructions, safety on the job, physical boundaries when working with others, time management, and job etiquette are part of the prevocational skills addressed. Vocational skills in horse and goat care are tasks such as feeding, water maintenance, mucking, and related barn care and farm work.
Community classes will be generally offered year-round, one day/week,

Challenge Workforce Solutions program is offered generally year- round, two to three days a week, from 10 -11:30 AM. Contact Briggs Seekins at briggs@aboutchallenge.org or (607) 272 8990. Services and local transportation may be available at no cost. The program teaches vocational skills of routine horse and goat care, including feeding, water maintenance, mucking, and related farm work; and pre-vocational skills for job readiness, such as social and language skills to best communicate with supervisors and co-workers, problem-solving, leadership, team work, following instructions, safety on the job, physical boundaries when working with others, time maintenance and job etiquette.

The program focuses on job readiness in building, repair, construction skills, painting and related barn chores, as well as routine horse and goat care. These include on the job social and communication skills, problem-solving, leadership, team work, following instructions, safety on the job, physical boundaries when working with others, and job etiquette.
NY State Education Department Access VR is a wage supported work experience in a community based setting. This is an opportunity for developing Independent work skills. offered through a registered state agency.
Voacational Assessment: Offered through a registered State Agency or private pay.

Training is offered at a small beautiful horse ranch in Newfield, New York, which is 8 miles from the city of Ithaca in central New York, about 1 hour drive from Syracuse and Binghamton, 2 hours from Rochester, and 4 hours drive or direct bus from NYC.
